  Assault   Others

2015-05-29 01:26 - Waiting -
I was assaulted yesterday, Thursday, May 28, 2015 around second rainbow by the NNPC petrol filling station in Amuwo Odofin - Mile 2 Area of Lagos. My alleged crime was that I took pictures of an 'arrest' of a private car driving against traffic (one-way). Subsequently, I was grabbed by two policemen with my trousers and dragged across the road to a packed commercial bus that serves as their mobile station. I was physically and verbally assaulted both on the way and inside the bus including slaps and kicks. I asked what my crime was and they answered belatedly that I took their picture while in operation without their permission. My phone was seized and all the pictures connected to the incident were deleted and I was further assaulted. Friends who witnessed the incident andchallenged the policemen were also verbally assaulted.

A police officer that led the team, Godfrey Okey and Paul Utomi led the team and condoned as well as justified the assault carried out by the policemen against me. I strongly believe that they are attached to Area D command of Festac office of NPF.

I took the pictures because I have consistently observed the habitual misleading of the public private car owners to take one-way by the policemen in this axis. The policemen will hide in a 'hired' commercial bus and drive against traffic especially when there's a traffic logjam on both the mile 2 express and service lanes due to the packing of trucks and tankers.
